CITY MANAGER’S REPLY:
The Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government has overall responsibility for the management of the Electoral Register process nationwide.  The responsibility for updating and producing the Register annually is assigned by the DoEHLG to each local authority for its own administrative area.  The Franchise Section, which is part of the City Manager’s Department of Dublin City Council, produces the Register for Dublin City

Q76.    COUNCILLOR CIERAN PERRY
Can the Manager provide the following information:

  • Who decides who is employed as a teller in the polling stations on Election Day?
  • What are the criteria for being employed as a teller in the polling stations on Election Day?
  • Where are these jobs advertised?

CITY MANAGER’S REPLY:
The responsibility for employing staff to work in Polling Stations on election/referenda days rests with the City or County Sheriff of the City or County.  The Dublin City Sheriff administers the Dublin City area and is based at 13 Fownes Street.  He can be contacted at info@dublincityreturningofficer.ie

Q77.    COUNCILLOR CIERAN PERRY
Can the Manager ensure that the Office of Public Works inform all local Councillors when they intend to make changes to the traffic system within the Phoenix Park as this can affect the traffic on surrounding roads.  The current situation on Blackhorse Avenue in Dublin 7 is an example of this.

CITY MANAGER’S REPLY:
A letter has been forwarded to the Office of Public Works (OPW) regarding the matter and a reply will issue to the Councillor in due course.
